The plastics processing industry today is one of Malaysia's most dynamic growth
sectors. Its average growth over the last 10 years rates at about 15 % annually.
This is helped by buoyant growth in the export sector. The plastics industry can
be broadly categorised into the resin manufacturers, the intermediate raw material
processors and the end product fabricators. They produce a wide range of products,
the more visible ones being bags, bottles and consumers goods. The plastic
producing and manufacturing industry, however, is still a sector with growth potential.
Malaysia is able to produce high-quality products in the plastic packaging sector
at competitive prices. With emerging markets, especially in China, Vietnam and
Thailand, the demand for suppliers in the region is growing. For another reason,
Malaysia's economy is strongly export-oriented and therefore in need of related
industries on plastic packaging, especially for electronics or pharmaceutical
products. The expected recovery, especially of the world's electrical and electronics
industry, will again lead to a growing demand for plastic packaging materials
on the domestic market. |
